In mid-August, the Silver Nugget Casino in North Las Vegas closed unexpectedly. Major electrical problems were blamed for the sudden closure. It did not affect the adjoining Jefebet concert venue, which remains open.
For almost three months, the Silver Nugget’s website said the casino was closed indefinitely. Players with free slot play were directed to Ojos Locos, a related casino with the same loyalty club.
This week, the Silver Nugget’s website disappeared. The domain forwards to the Jefebet events center, which is on the Ojos Locos website. However, there is no link to the rest of the Ojos Locos pages from it. The events page is a dead end. All Silver Nugget mentions are gone.
Vegas Advantage made three attempts to reach Fifth Street Gaming, the parent company of Silver Nugget, for comment. The contact email address on the company’s website bounced. A second email address went unanswered. A social media comment also did not receive a response.
Vegas Advantage tried calling Silver Nugget. In August, the listed phone number forwarded to Ojos Locos. Today, Silver Nugget’s phone number is disconnected.
Silver Nugget was well past its prime
Silver Nugget opened in 1964. The property is dilapidated.
If it is closed permanently, it will not be a big loss for casino players. Silver Nugget stopped dealing table games after the March 2020 statewide pandemic closure. When it had tables, the only game was $5 3/2 blackjack with a $100 maximum bet. The tables were only open on Friday and Saturday nights.
Silver Nugget’s sister casino Lucky Club also stopped dealing live blackjack in March 2020. It had the last $1 3/2 game in the market. The only $1 Las Vegas blackjack left pays even money. Lucky Club rebranded to Ojos Locos in 2023, which does not have live tables.
The video poker at Silver Nugget was atrocious for a locals casino. The best game was 7/5 Bonus Poker. Most of the other games returned 97% or worse.
Silver Nugget had cleanliness issues. In 2016, its restaurant closed due to a bed bug infestation.
Safety was also a concern at Silver Nugget. Two 2016 incidents resulted in three murders and an officer-involved shooting that killed an employee responsible for one of the crimes. In 2021, there was another murder on the property.
