It started with a joke about world records. Then, after months of planning, the idea became a reality. We, John and Kristina Mehaffey, visited 93 casinos in less than 24 hours to celebrate our 21st anniversary.

The previous record of 74 was set in 2017

The official Guinness world record for the most casino visits stands at 74. It was set by a pair of friends in October 2017. We contacted Guinness to officially break the record. However, by their rules, the record cannot be broken due to the loss of too many live table games in the Las Vegas Valley, and definitely not on a weekday since some pits are only open on weekends.

Regardless, we decided this would not stop us from trying to break the record. While Guinness would only count casinos with live tables, we considered any casino with a non-restricted gaming license. Proof of our visits would come from slot tickets, so only casinos with TITO (ticket-in-ticket-out) machines were on the final list. A couple of Strip casinos were not included since they do not have their own gaming licenses. Encore is a part of Wynn and O’Sheas operates with Linq.

Planning our adventure

One of the biggest challenges was plotting our route. However, Google My Maps helped us pin all 93 casino locations on a single map without any other distractions. This allowed us to plot the most efficient driving and walking routes. The time of day and traffic also was considered during this stage of planning. Transportation from Circa for the final piece of our journey was a huge help! Additionally, it was a fun 21+ property to celebrate our 21st anniversary at the end of our adventure.

Instead of just playing slots, we decided to play keno. We used our anniversary numbers, 10 and 5 for the date, 21 for the number of years, and the casino visit number. A few adjustments were made for overlapping numbers and visits after number 80. Station and Wildfire properties even spoiled us with $10 in free play at each of the 14 company locations we visited!

Living the dream as it becomes reality

The dream started becoming real as we each put our first dollar bill into a pair of keno machines at Golden Gate in downtown Las Vegas on October 4, 2023. At 5:03pm, we cashed out our first slot ticket souvenirs.

Celebrating the new record: 93 casinos visited in 24 hours

The record was broken at Wildfire Lake Mead. We received a warm welcome upon our entry. After our slot play, a few pictures, and some complimentary t-shirts, we were on our way. Every visit from this point on was a new record. The final stop, number 93, was at Circa.

In addition to transportation assistance, Circa helped us celebrate our anniversary in style. After our final keno play at Mega Bar, we cleaned up and celebrated with a champagne toast and a few additional drinks at Legacy Club. Grabbing food to go from Saginaw’s Deli, we head back to our room at the Plaza.

After a great night’s rest, we are sore, but feeling pretty good. A joke became a dream, that is now our reality. Even as I write this, it feels unreal, but we have the proof in hand.
