Vegas Advantage is excited to announce that we reserved a room at Longhorn Casino on Boulder Highway to livestream the Eastside Cannery implosion. The 16-story, 307-room Eastside Cannery hotel-casino closed on March 17, 2020, due to the pandemic. It never reopened. It is the last casino closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic still standing. That will all change at 2am on March 5, 2026. That is when Boyd Gaming will bring down what remains of Eastside Cannery’s hotel.

Longhorn Casino, across Boulder Highway from Eastside Cannery, is hosting an implosion party. For $25 per car, guests may watch the implosion from the front parking. The $25 includes a $20 free slot play voucher for Longhorn players club members. Rooms are $250 and include a $100 free play. Vegas Advantage booked the room early and got it for a standard weekday rate. We have been guaranteed a Boulder Highway view by the very friendly and helpful employees at Longhorn Casino.

Subscribe to the Vegas Advantage YouTube channel and be notified when we are live at midnight early on March 5, 2026, here. The trailer includes footage from three other implosions we witnessed.

Why Eastside Cannery is closing after such a short time

Eastside Cannery opened on August 28, 2008. It replaced Nevada Palace. At the time of its March 2020 closure, it was the second-newest hotel-casino in the Las Vegas market. It was a few months newer than Aliante Station, later rebranded to Aliante Casino.

The grand opening’s timing was terrible as the financial crisis was unfolding. Las Vegas’s economy was the worst it has ever been. Eastside Cannery never caught on. It changed hands in 2016 when Boyd Gaming bought it. That gave the company three Boulder Highway casinos, as it also owns Sam’s Town and Jokers Wild.

Boyd Gaming allowed Eastside Cannery to operate under its old ways. This included allowing players to re-split aces in its blackjack games, something no other Las Vegas Boyd Gaming property allows. It also dealt $3 10x craps, and $5 roulette and pai gow poker. Unfortunately, the property continued to struggle. It closed on March 17, 2020, and never reopened.

Eastside Cannery operated for just 11 years. At least we will get an implosion for its final goodbye.
