The Plaza Carousel Bar opened on Saturday, May 20, at noon. It is located in the old front valet area at the Main Street entrance across from the Fremont Street Experience. It is open from noon to midnight daily.
Kristina and I were there before the opening. She took this video while we waited.
We then ate at the Mexican Grill in the food court. It was great. It was the first time I tried it.
Plaza Carousel Bar video poker
There are eight video poker machines at the bar. The machines are made by Aristocrat. The pay tables are unusual. The best that I found is Deuces Wild. It has an odd pay table that gives 15 coins on a five of a kind but only 6 on a straight flush. It returns 97.6%.
Another odd pay table is Bonus Poker. It pays 7 on a full house and 5 on a flush, but only 20 on quad fives to kings. This game returns 97.2%. Most of the other titles are around 97% or a little less. The denominations are $0.25, $0.50, and $1.
The pay tables at this bar are a little better than the sportsbook bar. However, both the Omaha Bar and Sand Dollar offer 99% and better games at the $0.50 and higher denominations.
There are several slot titles available on the Carousel Bar machines. This includes Buffalo. Keno and blackjack are also on the machines.
Glare is a major problem on the screens. The flashing lights above appear all over the machines. Players receive comped beer and well drinks while playing.
Drinks we ordered
Kristina ordered the Carousel Grand Pineapple. It is a rum drink that comes in an actual pineapple. I had the Amalfi Swing, a citrus vodka drink with Pop Rocks on the side of the glass. We enjoyed both. I had another Amalfi. Kristina ordered a frozen pina colada. The liquor is added before the drink is poured. The rum was Captain Morgan.
More Plaza openings coming soon
There are three other major projects that are near completion at Plaza in downtown Las Vegas. A nonsmoking casino is a week or so away from opening next to the Carousel Bar. Above that will be outside dining for Oscar’s. A Pinkbox Doughnuts is almost finished where the party pit once was near the south main entrance. The grand opening for all the new Plaza features is expected the second weekend of June.
