Casino Spotlight: Westgate

Westgate CasinoWestgate Casino

Westgate is a casino located just east of the Las Vegas Strip. It is on Paradise Road between the Las Vegas Convention Center and Sahara Avenue. It is home to a Las Vegas Monorail stop.

Westgate was previously known by three other names. It opened as the International Hotel on July 2, 1969. It became the Las Vegas Hilton in 1971 before changing to LVH in 2012 after Hilton pulled its franchise agreement. The property went into foreclosure and Westgate, a company known for its timeshare business, acquired it in 2014.

The property was remodeled. The most noticeable improvement happened in its world-famous sportsbook, though there are many differences between Westgate and its predecessor.

High Limit at Westgate CasinoTable game selection

The table game pit at Westgate is home to 14 tables. There are six tables in the high limit area behind the casino bar closest to the sportsbook.

Blackjack rules on the floor tend to be 6:5. There is only one table that pays 3:2. It is $25 for most visits, though I have seen it at $15 when it is very slow. The minimum bet for 6:5 is usually $10 or $15.

There are two craps tables on the floor. The minimum bet seems to be a consistent $15 since the reopening, though I found it as low as $5 before it. The odds are 3-4-5 times. The field pays double on 12.

There are two roulette tables. One has double zero. The other is triple. Both have a $15 minimum bet. Baccarat is spread for $25. Single deck blackjack pays 6:5 and is available for $15. These minimum bets were all lower before the pandemic. The table seat restrictions likely play a part in the minimum bet, though you may find lower minimums during slow times.

There are six tables in the high limit salon. This includes a craps table, baccarat, double deck blackjack and six-deck shoes. High limit was $25 during my December 2019 visit. I have not seen it open since. The blackjack rules are the same as the casino floor. The dealer hits soft 17. Surrender and re-split aces are not available.

Westgate video poker

The video poker at Westgate is about midway between the Strip and locals casinos. The best game is Loose Deuces (99.2%), according to VPFree2. These are available in $1, $2 and $5 denominations. Players will also find $1 8/5 Bonus Poker (99.17%) and $1, $2 and $5 9/6 Double Double Bonus (98.98%).

Bar video poker

Westgate has multiple video poker bars that are temporarily closed due to the pandemic restrictions. When these games return, I assume the games found before the pandemic return. Denominations are quarter, half-dollar, dollar, two-dollar and five-dollar. The quarter and dollar denominations have a progressive jackpot for a royal flush.

The best game is 8/5 Bonus Poker. It is available in the $2 and $5 denominations. These machines also have $2 and $5 9/6 Double Double Bonus. The best quarter up to one dollar game is 7/5 Bonus Poker (98.01%).

The Westgate poker room has been closed since March. It returns on September 10. Mark Selby is the poker room manager.

There are six tables there. Westgate installed plexiglass dividers to accommodate eight seats per table. The poker room will open at 4pm on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10am on Saturdays and Sundays. It is dark on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Players earn $2 an hour in comps when clocked in at a Westgate poker table. Players that give 30 hours in a week receive $200 in cash. A week runs from Monday morning to Sunday night. Read more about the Westgate poker room here.

Superbook Sports sportsbook at Westgate Casino in Las VegasWestgate Sportsbook

The Westgate SuperBook is like no other. It has had the reputation as the best sportsbook in Las Vegas since its days as the Las Vegas Hilton. The SuperBook will take nearly all action. Its limits and tolerance for sharps makes it a great choice in the rotation for pros and recreational sports bettors alike.

Players can bet with Westgate anywhere in Nevada on its mobile app. A visit to the sportsbook is required to create the account. Once it is funded, it will work in any part of the state where location can be verified.

Westgate locals offer

Westgate has a locals special that is available on Thursdays. There is a 25% discount on all dining. Slot and video poker players receive five times points and an entry into a $2,000 slot tournament.

Westgate restaurants

Westgate has many open restaurants. Others are temporarily closed due to pandemic restrictions.

Fresco Italiano offers meat, seafood, pasta, including whole wheat and gluten-free options. It is open for dinner at 5pm nightly.

Benihana is a Teppan grill with a Japanese menu. This includes grilled meats like New York strip and filet mignon, as well as sushi and appetizer options.

Fortuna is a 24-hour café. Other options include the Draft Sports Bar and Grill Express, Nacho Tacos Authentic Mexican, Cordovano Joe’s Pizza and Rikki Tikki Sushi. Silk Road Asian Bistro, Edge Steakhouse, Bar Sake and Robata Grilland the buffet are among the temporarily closed dining outlets.

Westgate hotel

Westgate has both a hotel and a timeshare on its property. A Premium room starts around $40 a night during the week and $65 on weekends. This does not include the $34 resort fee or taxes. A Signature room is a $15 upgrade per night. A Luxe room adds $23 to the base rate. Suites start around $150 during the week and $200 on weekends.
