On July 20, 2024, an influencer declared that Venetian now deals quadruple zero roulette in an Instagram video. Vegas Advantage did not see that post at first. However, several people notified us about it in a way that made us think they saw the game as opposed to just hearing about it. So, Vegas Advantage visited Venetian and Palazzo to check it out. It would not have surprised us to see 0000 roulette originate at Venetian. That is where 000 roulette and widespread 6/5 blackjack started.
However, the information was inaccurate. All the same roulette tables that were there before were available. Venetian and Palazzo have no quadruple zero roulette tables. Had any of the sources told us it came from a problematic influencer, we would not have wasted time chasing the story.
The claim is that Roulette Xtra, a variant that has been around since 2022, was a sneaky way to trick people into playing with the same odds as 0000 roulette. The two games are almost nothing alike in terms of house advantage. To claim that Roulette Xtra is the same as 0000 roulette is misleading, and based on my attempts to correct the info with the influencer, it feels like a way to engagement-farm by manufacturing fake outrage over a small part of an otherwise normal double zero roulette game.
How to play Roulette Xtra
Roulette Xtra plays exactly like the standard double-zero game with one exception. Straight bets do not pay 35/1. A straight bet is made on a single number. It wins only if the pill drops on that number.
The payout for most straight bet wins in Roulette Xtra is 30/1. However, there is a twist. Four numbers receive special payouts through bonus ball animations. After all bets are finalized, these bonus numbers are shown on the roulette table display. The amounts range from 50/1 to 200/1. This payout substitutes the 30/1 if a player makes a straight bet that corresponds with an Xtra ball.
For example, if a player makes a straight bet on 7, and the random number generator chooses 7 as 100, the player wins 100/1 on 7 if it is called. Alternatively, if 7 won without a bonus ball it would pay 30/1. This averages the payout on straight bets to 33.2, nearly doubling the house advantage when compared to the standard 35 payout on straight-up bets.
Roulette Xtra payouts
- Straight (one number): 33.2 (average of all outcomes, known as expected value)
- Splits (two numbers): 17
- Street (three numbers): 11
- Corner (four numbers): 8
- Basket (five numbers): 6
- Line (six numbers): 5
- Dozens and columns (twelve numbers): 2
- Red, black, odd, even, high, and low (eighteen numbers): 1
The only difference in the payouts between quadruple zero roulette, if it existed, and Roulette Xtra, is on the straight bet. It would be 35 in 0000 roulette. All other payouts are the same between games. While the payouts between Roulette Xtra and quadruple zero roulette are nearly identical, the odds of winning are different.
Odds of winning at Roulette Xtra versus 0000 roulette
Type of Wager | Odds of Winning at Roulette Xtra | Odds of Winning at 0000 Roulette |
---|---|---|
Straight (one number) | 2.63% | 2.5% |
Split (two numbers) | 5.26% | 5% |
Street (three numbers) | 7.89% | 7.5% |
Corner (four numbers) | 10.53% | 10% |
Basket (five numbers) | 13.16% | 12.5% |
Line (six numbers) | 15.79% | 15% |
Dozens; Columns (twelve numbers) | 31.58% | 30% |
Odd/Even; Red/Black; High/Low (eighteen numbers) | 47.37% | 45% |
House advantage
Most double zero roulette tables have two house edges, depending on the bet. The basket bet, which covers 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3, has a 7.89% house advantage. All other double zero bets are 5.26%.
Roulette Xtra changes the house edge of the straight-up bet, which covers only one number while keeping the hold the same on all other bets. Doubling the number of zeros puts all bets at nearly twice the disadvantage when compared to Roulette Xtra’s double zero wheel.
Type of Wager | House Advantage on Roulette Xtra | House Advantage on 0000 Roulette |
---|---|---|
Straight | 10.04% | 10% |
Split | 5.26% | 10% |
Street | 5.26% | 10% |
Corner | 5.26% | 10% |
Basket | 7.89% | 15% |
Line | 5.26% | 10% |
Dozens; Columns | 5.26% | 10% |
Odd/Even; Red/Black; High/Low | 5.26% | 10% |
Odds of hitting Roulette Xtra bonus balls
There are four Roulette Xtra bonus balls and 38 total numbers. The player will get a multiplier on a single straight-up bet 10.53% of the time. That is once every 9.5 spins, which is the same as winning a corner bet on a double zero roulette wheel. The average payout when a bonus ball is picked for a number is around 120.
Roulette Xtra is not a new game
As has been clearly demonstrated here, calling Roulette Xtra the arrival of quadruple zero roulette is nothing short of clickbait. Even if it had the same house edge as 0000 roulette, Vegas Advantage first discovered this game as an electronic table at Horseshoe and Paris in 2022, so spreading the news now is years late.
There are worse Las Vegas roulette games
As we have covered in the past, Bally’s upright roulette machines often short-pay players on straights and splits. If Roulette Xtra is the arrival of 0000 roulette, then Las Vegas already has five-zero and six-zero roulette. The worst of these games holds 15.79% on straights and splits.
Many influencers make major errors covering gambling and casinos
There are many more obvious mistakes made in the videos in question which show a lack of understanding of roulette math and rules by its creator, Vegas Pauly C, who claims to be a casino expert. I watched several other videos published by this influencer with major math or factual errors.
Sadly, many influencers spread misinformation for attention. The controversy gets them clicks and social media companies pay them for it. Accuracy and respect make less money than misinformation and outrage.
Exploiting this monetization model has become a business plan for people masquerading as gambling experts who lack the expertise to create that content. This squeezes out accurate information in the name of the dollar. While there are great content creators, many who cover Las Vegas do not understand the first thing about casinos and should be ignored.
Our goal is to provide the best gambling information possible so players can make the most informed decisions. Vegas Advantage recommends independently verifying any claims made by video influencer accounts as many are unreliable.
If you want expert casino content, stick with sites like Vegas Advantage and Wizard of Odds. For Las Vegas videos, we recommend JacobslifeinVegas, That Casino Life, and Vegas Vice, among others.
