BetMGM Deceives Players and Steals From Advantage Media

BetMGM sportsbook at Park MGM.

Update April 9, 2025: BetMGM deleted the article from Borgata’s website that was plagiarized from our work. We can also report that updates and deletions have been made to some of the content we covered in the video related to the company suggesting bad strategy that would cause players to lose faster. We hope the company continues cleaning up these sites. The original article is below.

BetMGM, a licensed online gambling company joint-owned by Entain and MGM Resorts, has been controversial. This includes when it tried to stiff a Virginia man after he won $214,500 and finally paying it after the story went viral. A Chicago man is dealing with the same issue

Our US Casino Advantage website also has issues with BetMGM. We caught the group plagiarizing three of our articles using a method called patchwriting. That is when a writer creates content well outside their expertise and changes a few words to avoid copyright infringement. This is considered unethical media behavior. Attribution is required when using another site’s work. Ideally, a website that does that licenses it or at least links to the original. Backlinks are extremely important to sites like ours. BetMGM did none of this.

We deal with this issue constantly. Kristina and I create unique content but sometimes struggle to find content partners. It is tough to monetize our work.

We tried to work with BetMGM three times. We applied for an affiliate account years ago that is still pending. In 2023, I applied for a content job with the company but did not make it past the first interview.

In 2024, when we caught BetMGM plagiarizing a crapless craps article and getting it wrong, we offered to audit the company’s sites. They declined. After discovering the latest content theft, I contacted BetMGM through three channels on April 6, 2025. I followed up with two again on April 7, 2025. Nobody replied.

The latest article we found copied three sections from our “Best Pennsylvania Video Poker” article at US Casino Advantage. Our article lists 16 Pennsylvania casinos. BetMGM only included three in their article. These sections were nearly verbatim. It was published on their Borgata online poker blog.

This video explains the issue:

Below, the three pictures with the white background are from our US Casino Advantage site. The black background is the Borgata blog post. You will see that these sections are nearly identical. Our article has pictures proving we were there. BetMGM’s version on the Borgata site has a broken image.

BetMGM offers bad strategy advice that would cause players to lose faster

BetMGM suggests players make several foolish actions that would cause faster losing if followed. In one instance, players are encouraged to double down when dealt a blackjack. The same article asserts players should always stand on soft 18, when at most, there are only three dealer cards where the player should stand with that hand: against a 2, 7, or 8, and the 2 is not always the right play.

BetMGM says that early surrender is more common than late surrender. However, early surrender does not exist in the real world. The authors and editor there repeatedly show they don’t understand blackjack, much less surrender. Another article suggests doubling down when players should not. Most articles don’t differentiate between the number of blackjack decks when telling players what to do, which is a major omission.

The next video shows these problems, as well as the ones in the next section related to BetMGM telling players to do things that are considered cheating. That is not something a licensed gaming operator should encourage. It is hypocrisy for MGM Resorts to accuse players of cheating at Roll to Win Craps while telling online players they can past-post bets, pick up Pass Line bets in the middle of a crapless craps roll, and should use knowledge only available to hole-carders.

BetMGM encourages players to cheat at casino games

In blackjack, players are encouraged to surrender when the dealer has a 17 with certain hands. However, only one card is shown when surrender is offered, so one would have to cheat by hole-carding to obtain this information. At craps, players are told to past-post a Don’t Pass bet to hedge a Come bet. At crapless craps, players are told they may pick up a Pass Line bet if they fail to make or lose the point on the second roll.

This video shows all nine articles:

This goes against BetMGM’s responsible gaming policy

BetMGM has responsible gambling standards on its website. This includes these statements:

Know how the games work and understand how the odds work before you bet.

This contradicts what I discovered. BetMGM tells players bad strategy and gets the odds wrong throughout its blog.

BetMGM believes in the power of informed choice to prevent gambling- related harm, and provides responsible gambling tools, responsible gambling information, odds, and resources to empower its customers to make appropriate choices related to their gambling.

We found numerous instances of inaccurate odds on BetMGM’s website. We consider this a responsible gambling violation.

BetMGM also talks about how it is involved in the community. It is hard to take that statement seriously when it forces members of its largest community to work for them for free.

It all seems intentional

Based on the number of times we have reported this to BetMGM and the problem continues, it is simple for us to conclude that the company intentionally spreads misinformation and tries to put honest content creators like us out of business. The reason for our beliefs for these ideas is that the blog has plagiarized content, forcing the original creators to work for free, and all the strategy advice we alerted them to is inaccurate and does not get fixed.

We found articles that encourage players to cheat at blackjack, craps, and crapless craps. All of this nonsense floods Google, and AI picks it up. Never use AI for gambling advice because of companies like BetMGM. Additionally, we hope that players will choose other companies that don’t act in these unethical ways for their online gambling action.

BetMGM should be punished by gaming commissions for this behavior

We will be reaching out to all jurisdictions where BetMGM holds a gaming license with links to these videos. It is our opinion that these are major responsible gaming violations. Hopefully, gaming commissions recognize that and punish BetMGM, forcing the company to replace the employees behind these issues and fix the offending content.

The company could also do this on its own. We are happy to help. It is never too late to do the right thing.
