Golden Gate is located in downtown Las Vegas at 1 Fremont Street. Its hotel is the oldest in Las Vegas. Previous names were Hotel Nevada and Sal Sagev, which is simply Las and Vegas each spelled backward. There are no amenities at Golden Gate. It is a hotel, casino, and bar. There are no dining options. Golden Gate is owned by the Derek Stevens family. Its sister properties are Circa and The D. Golden Gate offers an open bar happy hour with free play giveaways from 6pm to 7pm daily.
There are just over 100 hotel rooms. Many are part of the original building. Some were added later. There is a nightly resort fee of $39.95 per room. It includes complimentary parking and Wi-Fi for two devices. It also includes a 10% discount at the coffee stand and access to the fitness center at The D. Additionally, hotel guests have access to the pool at The D and Stadium Swim at Circa.

The smallest casino floor downtown is Golden Gate
Golden Gate has the smallest casino floor in downtown Las Vegas. There are about 380 slot machines and 15 electronic table games. Bar Prohibition is the main attraction on the casino floor. It offers a variety of video poker from the quarter up to $5 denominations.
The One Club players card is used. It is shared with Circa and The D. Food comps issued to Golden Gate players may be used at those other casinos.
There was a Circa sportsbook near the east entrance of the casino. It had a small viewing area. However, it closed in 2023. Additionally, the casino does not have a poker or bingo room. Live table games were removed in 2025.
Table game options
Golden Gate removed all live table games in September 2025. The casino is now all slots and electronic table games.

No dining, only drinks
Golden Gate is one of the few Las Vegas casinos without a restaurant. Dupar’s was the last one available here. However, it closed in 2017. We enjoyed many late night meals and shrimp cocktail specials when Dupar’s was located in the back of Golden Gate. While originally a $0.99 special, we enjoyed the shrimp cocktail as a $2.99 to $3.99 special. The last Dupar’s location in Las Vegas is at the Suncoast Casino. That location, however, does not have the old shrimp cocktail special the one at Golden Gate once did.
Drinks are available inside the casino at the Bar Prohibition. On Fremont Street, guests can grab a drink at OneBar. The Main Street stage hosts entertainment just outside this casino entrance. The Fremont Street Experience also has light shows at the top of the hour nightly.
More Vegas Advantage memories
In addition to eating at Dupar’s, we played many hands of Ultimate Texas Hold’em at Golden Gate. John misses the shrimp cocktail. We once stayed in one of the original rooms.
When we stayed here, we found it noisy with the most outdated bathroom we have ever seen in a Las Vegas hotel room. The room was otherwise clean and relatively modern. If you decide to stay here, you will probably have better luck on higher floors that face away from the Fremont Street Experience. Ours was on the second floor above the casino and facing FSE. We were offered earplugs at check-in. Unfortunately, we declined. You should accept them, just in case you find the room to be loud.
More recently, the casino was the starting line for our 21st-anniversary world casino record. After a couple of interviews with the local media, we started the timer by playing our first hands of keno.
The company also provided transportation for the final leg of the adventure. Circa was our final destination.
