The Plaza is a casino hotel in downtown Las Vegas. Located at the intersection of Main Street and the Fremont Street Experience, it opened on July 2, 1971. It is on the site of the former train station where Las Vegas started in 1905. The casino was originally called Union Plaza. It was the only casino in the world with a train station.
Now, about 1000 hotel rooms are split between the north and south towers. The Luxe rooms and suites are on the top floors of the north tower. These are the newest rooms available. Other rooms include deluxe, pool patio, junior suite, mini-suite, and derby suite. There is a nightly resort fee of $39 plus tax. It includes parking, fitness center access, local calls, boarding pass printing, and bottled water. Additional hotel amenities include a pool, pickleball courts, and a business center.
The casino has 775 slot and video poker machines and around 20 table games. Additionally, there is a bingo room and a live keno lounge. Other property amenities include a showroom, lounge, food court, pizza place, and two full-service restaurants. The showroom is used for entertainment, promotions, and other special events. Recent additions include Pinkbox Doughnuts, Carousel Bar, and a nonsmoking gaming area where BC Slots films some of his videos.

Quality casino games at the Plaza
Plaza is best known for its quality of gambling. It offers value at both video poker and table games. Full-pay video poker starts at the quarter denomination on the casino floor and half dollar at the bars. All standard blackjack pays 3/2. Craps has 10 times odds. Plaza is also the only downtown Las Vegas casino with single zero roulette.

Plaza also has the best video poker game in the entire Las Vegas market. The game is quarter full pay Joker Poker. There is one machine left with this game. It is on a throwback cabinet honoring the machine’s old coin game days.
So, once again, Plaza won the Vegas Best Advantage Awards for Value Downtown and Video Poker for 2024.

Many other video poker machines offer 99% and better video poker. These titles start at $0.25 on the floor and $0.50 at the bars. The highest denomination is $5. Video poker variants include Ultimate X, 50 play, 100 play, Wheel Poker, and 3 Way Action. The denominations start at a penny and go up to $1.
There is a William Hill sportsbook near the rear of the casino. It has a wall of TV screens for bettors to watch games. Drinks are available at the nearby Sportsbook Bar. Live Keno is also available at the Plaza. The casino does not have a poker room. The Plaza Rewards players card is used here.
Table games and blackjack rules
There are almost 20 table games at Plaza. Most of these tables are blackjack, which includes double deck, six-deck, and Most Liberal 21. All blackjack pays 3/2, except Most Liberal 21, which has unusual rules that are like Super Fun 21. Additionally, blackjack games allow double down before and after splitting. The dealer hits soft 17.
The other tables cover a variety of other games, like craps and roulette. It includes poker games like Heads Up Hold’em, pai gow poker, and Three Card Prime, which is similar to Three Card Poker. It is the only casino downtown with single zero roulette.

The Interblock electronic table game stadium next to the Omaha bar has four games. Additionally, heads-up and multiplayer electronic table games are scattered across the casino floor.

The only Bingo room downtown
Plaza is home to the only bingo room in downtown Las Vegas. Sessions start at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, and 9pm. While taking advantage of the bingo matchplay special, Kristina had some lucky bingo sessions. A couple of times, she won multiple games in a single session. Super Bingo is also available several times a year.

Sand Dollar Lounge and the Plaza Showroom
Sand Dollar Lounge hosts live music from local bands. Acts usually start around 9pm. This nonsmoking bar is accessible from the casino floor. Alternatively, there is an entrance along Main Street. Guests walk through retro lights from this direction.

The Plaza showroom hosts Miss Behave’s Mavericks variety show. Shows are Wednesday through Sunday with a second show on Saturdays. The showroom is also used for special events like March Madness and Super Bowl viewing.
Enjoying a bite to eat and a drink at the Plaza
There are seven restaurants available at Plaza. Oscar’s Steakhouse is its flagship. It is a high-end steakhouse named after the former Las Vegas mayor, Oscar Goodman. We have enjoyed many dinners with friends and family at Oscar’s, including celebrating Kristina’s 40th birthday. Located on the second level of the property, the steakhouse is open for dinner nightly. There is also a happy hour. Seating is now available on the rooftop patio.
Hash House a Go Go is near the hotel lobby. It offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. Pop Up Pizza is near the back of the casino. It offers pizza by the slice, whole pies, and appetizers. A limited Pop Up Pizza menu is available in Sand Dollar Lounge.
The Plaza food court is home to Subway. It is open 24 hours a day, except that it closes Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 11pm. There is also a Fresh Mexican Grill, Just Rice, and Coffee Bar. Pinkbox Doughnuts is located at the front of the property.

Outdoor and indoor bars
Guests can grab a drink outside under the canopy of lights facing the Fremont Street Experience. What was once a dropoff and valet entrance is now an outdoor bar. The Carousel Bar has eight bartop machines, additional bar seating, and tables.
There are also three video poker bars inside the casino. The Omaha Bar is located near the table game pit. It is open 24 hours a day. Sports bettors can grab a drink at the nearby Sportsbook Bar. Drinks are available on weekends and service starts in the evening during the week. Sand Dollar Downtown is a nonsmoking bar. It opens daily at 4pm.
More Vegas Advantage memories
Our relationship with the Plaza started at the Las Vegas Club. It was there that John met Jonathan Jossel, the current CEO of the Plaza. Following the closure of the Las Vegas Club, John’s favorite coin machines were moved to the Plaza. One of those machines, now sits in our game room.
We play at Plaza more than any other Las Vegas casino. Sand Dollar Lounge has 99% and better bartop video poker at $0.50 and higher denominations and great bartenders. John plays the full-pay Joker Poker machine when it is unoccupied. Some of the employees worked at Las Vegas Club and have known us for years. Plaza is like a locals casino in downtown Las Vegas. Aquarius is one of the best hosts in town.
John used to play in the live poker room that was where the Plaza Rewards center and keno lounge are today. It had a midnight tournament every day. John won a few and cashed in several others. Plaza closed its live poker room after the major remodeling around 2010. It installed several Pokertek machines. We used to play low-limit tournaments with friends on these games. The room was next to Omaha Bar before it moved closer to the Main Street entrance near the table games. Plaza removed these poker machines in 2016 after the manufacturer changed hands and the new company decided not to get a Nevada gaming license.

Having a summer birthday, Kristina has enjoyed multiple birthday celebrations at the Plaza. Select rooms on the pool level have a private outdoor patio. One room even connects to a suite with a living room and wet bar. When available, these are our favorite pair of rooms to request.
Plaza was also a sponsor and the second casino visit for our 21st-anniversary record. We stayed the night there after completing our record and celebrating at Circa.
