Main Street Station will reopen on September 8, 2021, according to a press release from Boyd Gaming. Doors will open at 6am. The casino closed at midnight on March 17, 2020 and has been shuttered ever since.
Boyd Gaming owns two other downtown Las Vegas properties that reopened on June 4, 2020, when Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak permitted casinos to operate after the pandemic closure. The company’s downtown casinos are reliant on visitors from Hawaii. Travel restrictions have made it difficult for guests from that state to visit, lowering demand for Main Street Station. The parking lot has been used for COVID-19 testing for downtown Las Vegas guests needing a negative test to travel.
It appears that the company believes the demand has returned to justify the Main Street Station reopening. The increasing action we have seen at sister properties California and Fremont seems to confirm this.
Both Main Street Station restaurants will reopen with the casino. Triple 7 Restaurant and Microbrewery will be open 5pm to midnight Thursday through Monday. The Garden Court Buffet will be open from 8am to 2pm daily and 4pm to 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Main Street Station known for good games
Main Street Station was known for a few unique gaming features. Craps was 20 times odds before the closure. A sign noting this is still on the property, so it seems like that is safe. That is the highest craps odds in Las Vegas, tying Sam’s Town, its sister property on Boulder Highway. All double deck blackjack games paid 3:2 and often had a $10 minimum bet before the closure.
The casino floor at Main Street Station had dozens of coin video poker machines. This included Pay the Aces No Faces Game that we have not found anywhere else. Treasure Chest Poker was available in quarter and dollar denominations.
It is unknown if these games remain. Fremont reopened in June 2020 without any coin games. It had some when it closed due to the pandemic. California still offers a handful of coin video poker machines. However, the number on the floor regularly drops.
Boar’s Head Bar is a favorite among video poker players. In addition to great drink service, the machines offer good games like 9/6 Jacks or Better and 9/7 Double Bonus.
Five Las Vegas casinos remain shuttered
There will still be five major Las Vegas casinos closed since March 2020 when Main Street Station reopens next month. Those properties are Boyd Gaming’s Eastside Cannery on Boulder Highway and Station Casinos’ Fiesta Henderson, Fiesta Rancho, Palms and Texas Station.
Palms is set to reopen under new owners in early 2022. The others have no known reopening plans.
Two other Clark County casinos near Las Vegas remain closed. Those are Terrible’s in Jean and Buffalo Bill’s in Primm.
